Getting to know the process hierarchy

Processes are usually documented in the form of a process hierarchy. At the top level, a process map provides an overview of all areas in which processes may be relevant to you. The processes are often grouped into management, core and support processes.

The areas are usually structured further at the next level in order to organise access to the processes in a kind of table of contents.

Finally comes the actual process level, where the specific processes describe the defined course of particular procedures. This is usually done in the form of flow diagrams, which show the individual activities (tasks) in a sequence (sequence flow) that is started, influenced and ended by events, taking conditional branches and merges (gateways) into account.

As this form of presentation requires knowledge of the symbols used, Bpanda also automatically presents this sequence of activities in tabular form as process steps in a flow list. The possible next steps are offered as links in each case. This means that every process variant can also be presented in this purely textual form.

So that you can also work through a process diagram step by step without any prior knowledge, a guide is available that lets you navigate the process diagram quite easily while explaining the symbols.

Visibility of process versions

As processes can exist in different versions, the following order of precedence applies to the general visibility of exactly one of the possibly several existing process versions.

1. Valid process version (published version within the validity period)
2. Next valid process version (published version with a later validity period)
3. Last valid process version (published version with an earlier validity period)
4. Last imported process version (revision, for authorised roles only)
5. No display

The respective visible process version of a process is displayed as a search result and under Favourites, Recently Viewed and Relevant Processes.

In connection with a review, the process version that is in the review is displayed.

The Process Owner can block a user. The process is not visible to these users.
