As a **BPM Manager**, you can use the integrated **Process Map Editor** to design **process maps**.

## Prerequisites [#voraussetzungen]

You are a **BPM Manager**.

## Context [#zusammenhang]

You can easily create **process maps** with the **Process Map Editor**.

A saved process map draft remains in your drafts even after being submitted and is therefore available to you as a template for further process maps.

Your process map draft only becomes visible to others once you submit it and add it to the process hierarchy. This means you can first design it as you like and save it as a "private" draft.

The **Process Map Editor** offers the following operating areas.

### Upper Toolbar [#obere-symbolleiste]

The toolbar offers functions for the draft as a whole. If you position the mouse pointer over an icon, the function is displayed.

- **New draft**, **Reset draft**
- **Open draft**
- **Save draft**, **Save draft as**
- **Delete draft**
- **Import BPMN file as draft**
- **Export process map**
- **Undo**
- **Redo**
- **Translate into other languages**

### Left Toolbar [#linke-symbolleiste]

The toolbar offers functions for creating, grouping, deleting, duplicating and arranging draft elements.

When you click a shape icon or the text icon, a corresponding element is created and is located under the mouse pointer so that you can position it in the process map.

Even in a grouping of shape and text elements, the text can be edited in the **Properties**.

Please note: Grouping creates a reference object for linking. Consequently, ungrouping while later editing a linked process map results in the loss of the group's link.

### Zoom Icons [#zoom-symbole]

You can change the display size incrementally within a certain range or fit the diagram size to the window.

### Properties [#eigenschaften]

The **Properties** area on the right can be expanded and collapsed.

Here you can define the **Fill color** of the elements if the **Color** option is enabled under **Manage Process Space** in the **Modeler Settings** tab.

## Procedure [#so-gehst-du-vor]

You have two ways to open the editor:

- In the main menu, select **Processes** > **Process Hierarchy** and there, for a new, saved hierarchy element, ⋮ **Go to process map**; then, in the **Process Map** tab, click **Open Process Map Editor**.

  This alternative immediately establishes the assignment of the resulting process map to the hierarchy element.
- Under **Drafts**, in the **Process Maps** tab, click **Create new draft**.

  This alternative subsequently requires the assignment to a hierarchy element.

The **Process Map Editor** appears.

1. To add a shape element, click a shape icon in the left toolbar, drag it to a free position and click to create it.

   The element is created.
2. To label a shape element, click the text icon in the left toolbar, drag it onto the shape element to be labelled, click to create the label, and enter the text.

   The shape element is labelled.
3. To group shape and text elements so that they can be moved together, select them and click **Group selected objects**.
4. To edit a text element, select it, expand the **Properties** and edit them.
5. To save the draft, click **Save draft** in the upper toolbar.

   The draft is saved under the name entered. It appears on the **Drafts** page.
6. To save the diagram as an SVG or PNG file, click the required graphic type in the **Export process map** submenu in the upper toolbar.

   The draft is saved in the default download directory.
7. To add the draft to the process hierarchy as a process map, click **Submit** at the top.

   The **Submit as process map** dialog appears.
8. To submit the process map, select the hierarchy element to which it is to be assigned and click **Submit**.

   The draft is submitted as a process map for the hierarchy element. This process map can be edited again as a draft.
